Sergio Wiernik counts with more than 20 years worth experience in corporate finance, where he has accumulated more than US$2.1 billion in M&A volume and US$1.3 billion in syndicated loan structuring. Sergio initiated his professional career in Citibank Costa Rica, where he spearheaded several projects aimed to finance leasing and mortgage credit portfolios of various financial institutions. He also worked in New York with Citigroup, structuring syndicated loans for top tier corporations in Brazil, Mexico and Chile. Sergio returned to the Central American region in 2002 where he joined a financial advisory firm. In 2005, he founded Capital Financial Advisors along with Carlos Alier and Franz Lara.
Throughout his career, Sergio has gained deep know-how in the M&A industry. He has participated in processes all across Central America in a wide set of industries, including beverages, telecom, financial institutions, food processing, logistics, hospitality and pharmaceuticals, among others. He also leads relationships for clients in the Andean region overseeing growth opportunities via M&A.
He is a member of the Costa Rican Chapter of EO (Entrepeneurs’ Organization ). Also, he frequently contributes in the local and regional media with strategic analysis on different industries and perspectives of M&A activity.
Sergio has a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad de Costa Rica and obtained his MBA in the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill; he is a Fulbright Scholar.
